Missing in Action

So it has been a long while since my last post. I have still been quilting, but have to confess that I have recently learned to knit and have become quite addicted to it, so much so that I even started a blog about my knitting. I am still sewing and recently finished three Halloween embroideries that are ready to piece now. I am still enjoying the felt book and love these cute little birds that I made.



They look great next to this pocketbook I picked up on vacation last month.



On the quilting front, I picked up fabric for binding for three quilts that are all quilted and just need the binding on to be complete. Two are gifts and long overdue and one is a 4th of July quilt for myself, that didn't quite make it for this year, but will be more than ready for next. Hope to crank out the binding tomorrow and then get to sewing it on this week! I'll leave you with a couple pictures of my son enjoying his funnel cake at this year's fair.

My new favorite book
I absolutely love this book and just about every project in it!


Here are a couple felt owls that I finished up last week. With my Christmas gift money I bought a ton of wool felt and felt in different colors and have several more projects cut out and ready to go. If you like working with wool and felt, there are so many cute projects in it! I will have more felt ornaments to show you soon!

Here is a picture of a little wool pillow I made for my mother-in-law a few months ago out of scraps. I thought it turned out pretty nice and she enjoyed it. Today was the first day back to school for my first grader. Things went better than I expected! I thought for sure there was going to be a fight last night about bed time, but then he ended up falling asleep on the couch around 7:45 while watching his dad play a video game for him. Then this morning actually went pretty smooth and we got to school a little early. We often struggle with getting out of the house on time. I am going to lunch and shopping for a few hours today with my mother and sister-in-law and then have some major housework to catch up on from the holidays. Unfortunately, no quilting for me today, but maybe by the end of the week!

So it is a new year and time to start fresh on my blog. Didn't post much at all last year. My resolution for this year is to post much more frequently! Some of the highlights for 2010 for me:

1. Surprise 15th anniversary trip to Gatlinburg with my husband this past fall. This was such a nice treat as we spend a lot of time with our son and don't get away by ourselves. It had been over 10 years since we had gone away for a period of time alone.

2. My personal triumph of losing 30 pounds through Weight Watchers. I have been at my goal weight for over 4 months now and have never felt better! I still attend meetings regularly and follow the program closely. One of the greatest things I have ever done for myself!

3. My husband bought a Harley shortly before Christmas. I am so happy for him as he has wanted one for a long time!

There have been many other great things this past year and lots of wonderful memories made with my son and husband. I am looking forward to 2011 and all that it will bring.

Teacher Gifts and My Little Cutie Bug

Here are the gifts I made for my son to give his teachers for Valentine's Day. He is blessed with wonderful teachers and I am very grateful for how much they care about my boy.


I also made serval of these May Day bags and filled them with chocolates. My son gave one to the school nurse and one to our Pastor at church. They were very simple to make and I love how they turned out!

Here is my table runner that I made for myself. It looked really good with all my other Valentine stuff.

Here is my little cutie bug opening up all his valentines from his classmates. The smile on his face is precious. All of the kids in his class felt so special opening their valentines and I was lucky enough to get to be there for the party. They had a lot of fun and it just makes my heart happy to see my little boy smiling and felling loved. He is the greatest gift of my life and I love him dearly!

Something Old and Something New

A couple years ago for camp my friend Laura did a mystery that I had totally planned on participating in, and had even cut out all the pieces and made the gazillion half square triangles that were the first step, but then stopped. I think I was squared of the triangles after seeing what the finished quilt was. I usually don't do very well with triangles. So, I brought it home from camp in 2008, left it all kitted up, and never pulled it back out. This year I decided it was time to finish up some of my older UFOs. I love the two fabrics in this one, so decided to pull it out and get busy. Surprisingly enough, it is going much better than I had anticipated and, if I do say so myself, isn't looking half bad. Even my points are all matching up. Now I am anxious to get this one done and then quilted! Here is one of the four blocks that I managed to get done today. I hope to keep working on this one over the next few days. I am really liking it.


This next quilt is a new top that I made while staying at a camp retreat with friends two weekends ago. I love brown and green and was really pleased with how this one turned out. I need to buy some material for tha backing and then it is ready to go. When I bought the fabric for the top, I didn't take into consideration that the fabric I had bought for the big border was a directional print. Thank goodness I had enough fabric, with a 1/4 of an inch to spare. Nothing like cutting it close. Luckily it all worked out.



The newest thing we got at our house is Just Dance for the Wii. I love this game. It is a great workout, but so much fun. I will definitely be playing this game a lot.

Happiness is...
For me my life is full of happiness. I have been abundantly blessed with a great family and wonderful friends and a hobby that I love.

I finally finished my Farmer's Market top. I started these blocks with my friend Alisha last spring. It was a block of the month that went with our camp theme this past September. I appliqued all of the blocks except the letters on the Farmer's Market block. I tried and just don't have the applique skills for the letters, so ended up buttonhole stitching around them. I had wanted to applique the entire thing and did learn a lot while making this quilt, but had to admit when my skills just weren't there. I still love how it turned out and am thrilled to have this top done.




I finished Donovan's stocking today. Each year I make him a new stocking. This year he said he wanted a Snoopy one. My favorite is the one I made his very first Christmas. It was flannel stork fabric. I keep all of them hanging in my sewing room year round and we hang the ones from previous years throughout the house during the Christmas season.




I also managed to finished two winter pillows this week. I am glad to be getting things marked off my UFO list.




Finally, these are the table runners I made as a Thanksgiving gift for my son's kindergarten teachers. They are wonderful ladies and I am very thankful that my son is in their class.



According to the latest weather reports, we might get some snow on Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to it. There isn't really one season that I love more than the others. I find that each offers something to look forward to. I have enjoyed a nice fall and am now looking forward to the winter and all that it offers. The winter brings family time together for the holidays, advent, snow and sledding with my son, building snowmen, Christmas trees, stringing popcorn and cranberries, baking, quilting by a warm woodstove, and lots of other joys. I know my son is eagerly awaiting Christmas and has said numerous times over the last few days, "I'm probably still on the good list, right?" I think the next few weeks will be full of fun.
